Melanotan II, in research terms

Also known as MT-II.

Melanotan II is a synthetic melanocortin-receptor agonist. It is studied across more than one melanocortin receptor, which is why it appears in pigmentation research — and why it is the broader counterpart to the MC4-focused PT-141.

what it is

Melanotan II is a melanocortin agonist — it activates receptors in the melanocortin family. Its defining feature is breadth: it engages the MC1 receptor (associated with pigmentation) as well as the MC4 receptor. That MC1 activity is why it sits in the skin & aesthetics range.

receptor selectivity — the axis of comparison

Melanocortin compounds are compared on which receptors they favour. Melanotan II is broad. PT-141 (bremelanotide) is studied with a focus on MC4, the receptor most associated with arousal-pathway research. Same family, different receptor emphasis.

verifying identity and purity

Every Melanotan II research pen ships with an independent, batch-specific certificate of analysis reporting identity and HPLC purity. See how to read a COA.
